Software test process improvement approaches

Introduction
Ø For the past decade, the software industry has invested

substantial effort to improve the quality of its products.
Ø the software industry is still far from zero defects
Ø To improve product quality, the software industry has

often focused on improving its development processes
Ø Software test process improvement (STPI) approaches are

frameworks that guide software development organizations

to improve their software testing process.
Ø They have identified existing STPI approaches and their

characteristics using a systematic literature review (SLR)
Ø They  have selected two approaches (TPI NEXT and

TMMiare evaluated with respect to their content and

assessment results in industry.
Ø They have identified 18 STPI approaches and their

characteristics.

Ø A detailed comparison of the content of TPI NEXT and

TMMi is done.
Ø A guideline that has been widely used to improve the

development processes is the Capability Maturity Model
Ø the testing community has created its own

improvement models
Ø The TMMi is a detailed model for test process

improvement and is positioned as being complementary

to the CMMI.
